Such discrepancy between the calculated and experimental data can be explained by the marked non-uniformity of the falling object and the presence of pieces that were of considerably higher strength and less prone to destruction.

Figure 8.6 shows the calculation distributions of the ablated mass for different altitudes, for cases of motion with and without destruction. An integral of the discrepancies presented for different altitudes is the full ablated mass.
